The Friendly English

The English are almost always polite, so I was somewhat surprised to come across this note on the door of a health food store.  The store is part of a national chain and surrounded by tourist attractions.

I suspect that they're now fielding inquiries as to the location of the Abbey Church Yard.

Geezer

So for four years, I've been wondering why certain English people seemed to hate their old people so much. I'm not a big fan of the term 'geezer' in the best of times. After all, older people are entitled to their eccentricities, but when the term is used in England, people really appear to hate their geezers. Turns out, in England, geezer means someone who is out to take advantage of their fellow man. I have to go apologize to some people.
